ROBERT JAMES SIMPSON 1911 - 2008 At Taché Centre, on June 8, 2008 in his 97th year, peacefully after a lengthy illness, Bob passed on to Our Heavenly Father with family at his side. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Juliette; his children Claudette (George), Joël (Diana), Denise (Dave); grandchildren Karen, Colleen (Wade), Maureen, Sheila (Ron), Ross (Debi), Michael (Erika), Stephen, John (Diana), Heather (Frank), Jeffrey; great grandchildren Steven, Melanie, Travis, Paula, and Olivia; cousins, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born in Hazelridge, MB on June 12, 1911 and grew up on a farm in Giroux. During the Depression he worked at many jobs, often saying he made only $1 a day. His work life embraced many hard won skills as a City of Winnipeg fireman, bus driver, trucker, and perhaps his longest and most memorable as a neighbourhood grocer in Fort Garry, first on Clarence Avenue, and later on Pembina Highway near University Crescent. He served as a municipal councilman in the Municipality of Fort Garry before Unicity from 1960-1963. Dad's greatest legacy to his children was his strong Catholic faith. A convert from the United Church, he embraced his new faith with vigour and determination, ensuring that his children all went to Catholic Schools even when money for tuition was scarce. As the family patriarch, his sense of duty, service, work ethic, humour, gifts of friendship, undivided loyalty to family, and uncommon good sense will live on and has already shaped the next generation. Who can forget those times he forgave bills for groceries that some could not pay, and the few extra penny candies in a bag for a little one at the store. He embodied a sharp wit, an extraordinary memory, and a gift for a good story. His life was rich with family, friends and values that last. Thank you Dad for the many gifts you shared with us. Your devotion to our mother over 70 years of marriage will not soon be forgotten. Your time together with mom at the end was a final chapter of love and thanksgiving for lives well lived. Special thanks to Dr. Lowden, the Homecare team, Victoria Hospital, and the special staff of Taché Centre for their care and comfort. Cremation has taken place. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Parish at 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Fort Garry on Tuesday, June 17th at 11:00 a.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, donations may be made in Bob's memory to CancerCare MB, or a charity of your choice. Glen Lawn Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. We will miss you dad, and will greet you once again in eternal life. You shall be my special possession Ex: 19:5 GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
