Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryZELDA COHEN (BOGDONOV) Zelda Cohen (Bogdonov), aged 86 years, passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Edna Shuster, children Geraldine (Larry) Yanchynski, Mark (Donna), and Mandy; and grandchildren Suzanne (Kevin), Dylan (Alana), Ruthie (Boaz), Neal (Roxy) and Lesley. She was predeceased in 1980 by her husband of 37 years, Louis, as well as her brothers Ed, Harry, Sam and Jack, and sisters Esther and Anne. Zelda was born November 25, 1921 in Winnipeg and grew up in the bustling North End. She married Lou, the love of her life, in 1943 and managed the children and household affairs while he worked across Canada as a commercial agent. He eventually established L.H. Cohen Co. Ltd in 1972, and Zelda was there as his partner in the Avenue Building office to assist, support, organize and pick up loose stones. They loved to travel, and explored Hawaii, Israel, and diamond centers of Europe. She and Lou had a great affection for the younger generation and took pride in helping an endless array of couples choose their engagement rings and wedding bands. After Lou's passing she courageously and boldly took over the business and successfully operated it for years until health issues forced her to retire. She had an incredible memory and a terrific sense of humor. Zelda was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Family was her first priority. Her home was a center of activity, hosting many Saturday night parties with their large and special group of friends, who always remained a part of her life. Over the years she participated in the Lehava chapter of Pioneer Women, through which she developed treasured lifelong friendships. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23 at Etz Chayim Synagogue. Pallbearers were Neal Cohen, Mark Shuster, Paul Zaidman, Boaz Leven, Keith Stathers and Myles Davis, with honorary pallbearers Rube Helman, Larry Yanchynski and Arnold Permut. Our family wishes to thank the caring and attentive nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, 3rd floor U6, as well as Dr. Kevin Saunders, Dr. Greg Wilson, and Dr. April Boyd. Thanks also to our many relatives and friends for your incredible support, and to Mom's home care helpers whose visits she thoroughly enjoyed. Those wishing to make a donation in Zelda's memory may do so to a charity of their choice.
