HERBERT JUNG May 18, 1923 June 11, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our grandfather, Herbert Jung, aged 85 years. Opa' will be missed by grandchildren here in Winnipeg, Jackie Shymanski, and Michael Shymanski (Anna), and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew, as well as son-in-law Roy Shymanski. He also leaves behind his sister Gerda in Germany, and reunited family including son Sighard Jung (Karen), and grandchildren Kirsten, Anja, Jana and great-grandson Neo. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Erika, his brother Gerhard, daughter Monica Shymanski, son Marcel Jung, and great-grandson Eric Shymanski. Born in Schreiersgrun, Germany, Herb came to Canada in 1953, working as a bricklayer. After a few years in Winnipeg, Herb and Erika realized the dream of owning farmland, and purchased their farm in Fraserwood, Manitoba. In between acres of garden, cutting hay and raising cattle, there were trail rides with the horse club, and trips to the beach in Gimli. In later years, Herb gently but firmly refused most help to care for his wife, and spent almost a decade fulfilling his vow of in sickness and in health. Recently, he regained a part of his life once thought lost, when he was reunited with family in Germany. Between phone calls and trips, all tried to make up for a half century of separation. A memorial service will be held at the Gimli Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Healing Garden of the Gimli Community Health Centre. Many thanks to friends and neighbours for their help in recent weeks, to the nurses of the Gimli Community Health Centre for their care and assistance, and Dr. Lau and his staff at CancerCare Manitoba. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
