WASYLENA (MINNIE) BASTABLE Min passed away peacefully on June 12, 2008 with family by her side at Fred Douglas Lodge at the age of 95. Min was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Harold, her sisters, Jenny, Mary, Ann and brother John. She leaves behind sons, Vern (Beverly), Bob (Sylvia), and Gord (Suzanne); grandchildren, Vern Jr. (Sarah), Erin (Chuck), Mike, Holly Jane (Mike) McMahon, Robin (Steve) Bradley, Mandy (Dan) Pfeffer, and David (Laura); and great grandchildren JeneĆ”, Jaxsyn, Jake, Hudson, Krysty-Ann, Derek, Cassidy, Brody and newly arrived Jack (born June 10, 2008). Although Min was employed at Deer Lodge Hospital for a number of years, her claim to fame was definitely as a wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Any knock on the door or phone call from family usually resulted in the fridge and oven doors being opened for business. Cooking and feeding family, friends and strangers were a priority. Trips to the farm in Saskatchewan and blueberry picking in some secret location in Southern Manitoba or Vermillion Bay were favourite pastimes. Shopping trips to The Bay and Eaton's as well as Polo Park with a grandchild or two, sometimes three, were a common occurrence. Min's babysitting philosophy of walk them for miles and they'll sleep well resulted in walks from Roseberry Street to Assiniboine Park and/or Polo Park for those fortunate enough to spend time with her. Granny will miss and be missed by her boys and their families. She will be remembered as a caring, generous and always approachable spirit. Many thanks to the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge who have helped provide a caring and loving home for Min. Their warmth and kindness have not gone unnoticed. A family interment will be held in August at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
