VIOLET PETTY With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Violet Petty on June 12, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Beloved Mother of Ross and mother-in-law of Karen, Violet was born in Winnipeg on November 18, 1916. The youngest of four sisters, Violet was predeceased by her husband Victor in 1969. She taught piano in Winnipeg and attended Westminster United Church until moving to Toronto in 1996, where she lived a happily independent life and became a member of Timothy Eaton Memorial Church. With a life long passion for the Performing Arts, Violet enjoyed many live performances going back as early as the Dominion Theatre in Winnipeg, to Ontario's Stratford Festival, and most particularly The National Ballet of Canada and Toronto's Elgin Theatre. Violet also was a keen observer of world politics and a supporter of the Toronto Argonauts football team. She will always be remembered for her gentle nature and shy smile. Violet leaves behind relatives and friends in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, B.C., Georgia and Louisiana, including Dr. and Mrs. Kevin Kain and their sons Dylan and Taylor, Ellis and Susan Andrews, and Soren and Sandra Larson. She will be especially missed by nephew Michael Petty, niece Lee Notley, and friends Christopher Dew and Judith Lander. A memorial service will be held at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, 230 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto on Thursday, June 19 at 2:00 p.m. For those who wish, donations can be made in Violet's name to St. Michael's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, 30 Bond Street, 4th Floor, Toronto, Ontario M5B 1W8.
