MARY ELLA WOOD (nee LOWRY) 1921 - 2008 With family at her side, Mary left us Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Boundary Trails Health Centre. Mary Ella was born March 5, 1921 to Alex and Adeline (nee McElroy) Lowry. Born, raised and educated in the Barclay District north of Darlingford, the eldest of five children. After completing grade 10, she worked as a domestic. She married Jim in 1941 and began a career as a farm wife and raised her family south of Darlingford, moving to Morden in 1976. She enjoyed being involved in various activities in church and community: a Sunday school teacher, CGIT leader, life member of the UCW, treasurer of the Carman Presbytery and 4-H leader until her health limited her ability to be involved. A long term struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and ensuing health complications led to her living the past 10 years in the Tabor Home. Mary was a generous and caring spirit and a great inspiration to her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Jim; children, Marion George of Brandon, Ken and Linda of Sioux Narrows, ON and Sharon Wood of Regina, SK; grandchildren, Graham and Daintry, Colin and Sheila, George, Heather and Rob Eby and Ian and Lonna Wood; six great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Bythe Eby, Sydney and Paige Wood, Kade and Laike George. She is also survived by her sisters, Madeline and Russ Waddingham and Ruth and John Helmer; one brother Joe and Jennie Lowry. She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Adeline Lowry; her stepfather Bill Campbell; her sister Bea Rasmussen and her son-in-law Jack George. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, 353 Thornhill St. in Morden with Wendy Rankin officiating. A private ash interment at Darlingford Cemetery will take place prior to the service.
