PAUL HEMMELGARN Paul Vincent Hemmelgarn was born in Perham, MN on February 26, 1936. He died in St. Boniface Hospital on June 13, 2008 suffering a malignant brain tumour. He is survived by Millie (Mildred Brennan), his wife of 35 years; siblings, Rita Deutsch of St. Paul, MN, Joseph (Kathy) and Denis of Perham, MN. He will be sadly missed by Millie's family, Ernie Brennan of Pincher Creek, AB, Nora (Gene) Latour, Gerald (Mary), Bernice Wilkinson, all of Winnipeg, Shirley (Norman) Rochon of St. Pierre, Frances Brennan of Stonewall, Rose Brennan of Balmoral and many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother Louis. Paul was a graduate of St. John's University, Collegeville, MN and of St. John's School of Theology. He also held a Master of Theology degree from the University of San Francisco. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Saint Cloud, MN and served in sacramental ministry for 10 years. He had a 32 year career teaching religious studies at Cathedral High School in Saint Cloud, MN and at Hill-Murray Catholic High School in Saint Paul, MN. In retirement, Paul volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank, The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. He has continued to be active in the church where he worshipped and served as lector and on various committees for liturgy and faith formation. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21 at Saint Mary's Cathedral, 353 Saint Mary Ave. with Rev. Michael Koryluk officiating. Viewing will be at the Cathedral one hour prior to Mass. Private interment will take place at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
