GEORGE ALLEN Peacefully on June 16, 2008 George Allen passed away at the age of 93 years. George will forever be kept in loving memory by his wife Cecilia; daughter Diane (Harry) Prokop; sons, Stan (Sandra), Ernie (Marilyn), Terry (Irene) and grandchildren, Scott, James (Tanya), Chris (Bailey), Miki-Rae (Allan), Lee (Crystal), Aynsley, Christey, Melissa (Darcy) and great-grandchildren, Austin, Kate, Nicole, Jolie, Portia and Cody. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gladys Black, Winnifred Mann and brother Leslie Allen. George was born December 6, 1914 in Kennedy, Saskatchewan. Shortly after the family moved to West Kildonan where he resided for 60 years until his retirement in 1979. Upon retirement, George and Cec moved to the family cottage in Sandy Hook, Manitoba. George served in the RCAF during the Second World War and continued to remain an active supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion both in Winnipeg and Gimli where he became a life member. George started his electrical career at Stewart Electric where he became part owner of the company until his retirement. George was never happier than when he was helping his children and friends with their construction and electrical projects. George and Cec spent 16 wonderful winters in Hawaii and were joined by many family members and friends. George loved being outdoors and soaking up the sun whether it be in Hawaii or at the lake. George spent many years both coaching and watching his sons play hockey with a highlight year where he and his best friend, Eddie Peters, coached their son's team to the Bantam Provincial Championship. George was a very kind, generous, patient and persistent man. His favourite saying was there is no such thing as can't and he lived to that standard. George loved the big band music and was renowned for being the first and last off the dance floor...a smoother dancer not to be found. The last year George resided at the Betel Home in Gimli, Manitoba. The family wishes to thank the staff at the home for their care and compassion during his residence there. A celebration of George's life will be held on Friday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, 146-6th Street in Gimli, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
