BRYAN ERNEST GEORGE 1937 - 2008 It is with sadness that the family of Bryan George of Selkirk, MB announce his sudden passing at 70 years of age. Bryan leaves to mourn his wife of 43 years Jane, sons Peter and Ian Goodall-George (Shannon), grandchildren Jared, Kennedi, and Dane, sister Brenda Barker (Bob), and Jared's mother Randi Irvine of Riverton, and numerous relatives abroad. Bryan was predeceased by his parents Mickey George in 1971 and Elsie George (Hayes) in 1999, and cousin Peter George in 1998. Bryan was born in Barnet, England on July 17, 1937 and spent his formative years in Bexhill, England. Bryan initially trained as a dispensing optician and did national military service in late 1950s. Upon his completion of service he trained as an RPN and later as a RN. It was while he worked as a psychiatric nurse he met his wife Jane and they were married in 1965. Soon after Bryan was lured to Canada and the greater opportunities that existed here. He settled in Selkirk in the fall of 1968 and Jane followed later with their newly born son Peter. Ian was born in 1972 and the family was complete. Bryan nursed at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre for 25 years and retired in 1993. In those 25 years he earned the respect of his coworkers as well as those he cared for. It was his hobby he was best known for, as he was the owner and operator of Selkirk Chimney Sweeping for 15 years until he finally hung up his chimney brush and top hat. Bryan will be missed by all those who knew him. We will miss his hearty laugh, his generosity, most of all his sense of humour. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Christ Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, Manitoba with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers the family gratefully asks a donation be made to the Selkirk District Foundation, the Christ Church Building Fund or to a charity of choice in Bryan's name. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
