WALTER (WALLY) PROKIPCHUK January 24, 1936 June 15, 2008 Peacefully, after a battle with liver cancer, Walter passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the age of 72 years. Remaining to forever cherish Walter's memory are his three children, Tim (Ina) of Winnipeg, MB; Teresa (Dean) of Sifton, MB; and Todd of Dauphin, MB; grandchildren Dylan, Carissa, Deston, and Michael. Walter is also survived by his mother Anne of Winnipeg; brothers Nick of Vancouver, BC; Boris (Dorothy) of Nanaimo, BC; Danny (Lynne) of Black Creek, BC; Eugene of Winnipeg; and sister Audrey (Raymond) of St. Jean Baptiste, MB, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jarvis (infant); father William; brother Harry, and sister Elsie. Walter was born January 24, 1936 and lived in the Vita area for eight years before moving to Glenboro. During his youth, he and his brothers and sisters lived a very humble life on the farm helping their parents work the land. Walter moved to Winnipeg when he was 16 where he worked a variety of labor jobs to earn a living in the big city. He also worked locally on a few small farms before taking a job constructing building rafters. Wally spent the majority of his working career in the construction industry with Pile Foundations and Preset Drilling for a combined 30 years. He retired in 1999. Our father's passion was dancing. As a proud Legion member he gathered with his friends to attend dinner and dances at various Legion halls. During his working career Friday and Saturday nights were always reserved for dances at the Legion. In his retirement additional afternoon dances during the week were enjoyed. He and his friends also traveled around to small communities outside the city to take in various fall suppers, New Years' dances, or to seek out a favourite live band. Funeral Parastas will be held on Thursday evening, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue at Harrow Street with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel presiding. Thanks to Father Mark Gnutel for his special prayers and visits to our Dad during his stay at Riverview. We would also like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Riverview Palliative Care Unit on 3East, who went beyond and made every effort to make our Dad comfortable for the last seven weeks. Our family is grateful for your compassion, tenderness, and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Wally's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. Love always, Tim, Teresa Todd.
