DOROTHY SOPINICK Peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, Dorothy passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Dorothy was born on October 25, 1921 in Dobrowody, Zbaraz, Poland. She was the youngest child of Max and Catherine Leszczynski. At the young age of five she travelled to Canada with her parents and sister, Mary. They stayed briefly in Saskatchewan and then moved to Winnipeg where they settled in the North End on Pritchard Avenue. Dorothy married Kenneth Sopinick on October 19, 1940. They lived for a time in Red Lake, Ontario, where their only child, Sharon was born. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1948 and made their home on Cathedral Avenue. Dorothy began her modelling career in Winnipeg in 1958 working for various coat manufacturers and then for Debbs Millinery, first on Selkirk Avenue and finally on Portage Avenue before she retired. She also assisted Ken in his business, taking calls as his secretary for Ken's Appliance Service. In 1992, Dorothy and Ken sold the family home and moved to the Holy Family Seniors Tower where they met many new friends. When Ken died in 2004, Dorothy appreciated even more the friendships she had made there. Dorothy was a woman of style. She loved fashion, music, the ballet and opera. She love dancing and socializing with family and friends. She loved spending time with Ken and their sailboat which they kept in Gimli. Dorothy was also a woman of substance. She was a kind and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and great-aunt who delighted in the accomplishments of her family. She prayerfully supported all their activities. She recently had the joy of holding her first great-grandchild, Leo LaBine. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Joseph LaBine; grandchildren, Brian (Natasha), Lori (Daniel), Lisa (Mike); great-grandson, Leo; sister-in-law, Pat Jones; cousin, Mary Turko; nephews, Brian and Robert Burmachuk and their families, all of whom she loved dearly. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth in 2004; parents, Max and Catherine; sister, Mary; brother, Anthony and sister Stephanie in infancy. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave. The family wishes to thank nurses Connie and Laurel and their team on U1, 4th Floor at Seven Oaks Hospital for their professional and compassionate care. Thank you also to nurses Linda and Joy at Holy Family Home who attended to Mom and arranged for her transport to the hospital. Thank you to her physicians Drs. John Kreml and Lisa Gould, and to Jane, her lunch lady. Special thank you to the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate for all your prayers, friendship and support through the years. Be at peace dear mother, we will never forget your love for us. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
