Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN JAMES CONNER 1915 - 2008 Our family sadly announces the passing of our Dad, Jack, on the 11th of June, 2008. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Peggy and husband John Linklater, as well as relatives, friends and neighbours. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Ethel (nee Hansen); infant daughter, Patricia; brother William and parents, Lorne and Margaret (Sherrett) Conner. Dad was born in Portage la Prairie on the 4th of April, 1915. He attended school there, leaving in 1929 after his father's death to try to support his mother and brother. Times were hard and a young boy could do only menial jobs but he did what he could. As an adult, he engaged in the RCAF in Portage then sold cars in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and in 1944 he married the love of his life, Ethel Hansen of Minnedosa. They had two children, Peggy and Patricia. He finally settled on a career in Stationary Engineering and returned as an adult to finish high school. He completed a successful professional life with retirement in 1979. By then, Dad and Mom were cottaging on the Lee River and took up full-time residence shortly thereafter. Boating, bird watching and swimming all summer then for many years, winter spent in South Texas. Mom's passing in 2000 slowed Dad down and he chose not to travel any more. By then, Peggy and John were living at the cottage and we all took care of each other. Over the years, there have been parties and outings all filled with fun and laughter. Dad's sense of humour has brightened good times and helped us through bad times. We are told his Christmas poems and calendars have brightened many a day. At Dad's request there will be private interment only. Dad, there is an empty space in our lives and we will miss you forever. Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
