HENRY PETER (PETE) SPRATT Peacefully on June 17, 2008, Pete passed away in his sleep at the age of 75. Pete will be sadly missed by Helen, his loving wife of 48 years; his children, Mark (Cheryl), Paul and David (Rhonda); sister Glady (Nelson and children, Dana, Krista and Christopher (Bahar); sister-in-law Selma and his grandchildren, Bryan, Darryl, Ethan and Margaret as well as Anissa and numerous nieces and nephews from Helen's side and other family members and friends. Pete was predeceased by his parents, Mark and Anna and his sister-in-law Agatha (Henry) and brothers-in-law John (Agnes), Henry (Elizabeth) and Peter. Pete was born at home to parents, Mark and Anna on November 26, 1932 in Selkirk, Manitoba. As a young boy, he and his family moved to Winnipeg where he had many cherished memories, in particular taking care of his little sister Glady. As Pete grew older, he entered the world of speed swimming where he excelled in free style, achieving many medals at the provincial and national level. Even in his later years, Pete could be seen speeding through the water at the lake! Pete also had a keen interest in outdoor life where he became a counsellor at Camp Stevens. He also became an avid paddler with the canoe club. In Pete's 20s, he met the love of his life, Helen. They married on July 9, 1960 and spent 48 wonderful years together, building and nurturing their family. Another love of Pete's was West Hawk Lake where in 1959 he built a cottage that gave him and his family many years of relaxation and enjoyment. He was always happy to be behind the wheel of the speed boat towing a water skier behind him! Pete's incredible memory and love for numbers led him to achieving a degree in Chartered Accountancy in 1955. He excelled in his career as a CA first with Sharp Woodley and then with the Federal Government for 35 years. Pete had many other interests through his life which included travelling to England, Hawaii and Phoenix, stamp collecting, motorcycles and vintage cars. Similar to being born in his home in Selkirk, Pete, as he wished, peacefully passed away at home in Winnipeg. He enjoyed a long and wonderful life. A private memorial service will be held to celebrate Pete's life. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends wish, donations in Pete's memory may be sent to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3 or Salvation Army Memorial Fund, 500 55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1L8.
