Date of Passing: Jun 15, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK LESLIE (JOHNNY) HOWELL 1921 - 2008 Peacefully on June 15, 2008, in his 88th year, predeceased by wife Pearl in 2006, Jack leaves to mourn sons, Bill (Jane) of Temagami, ON, Steve (Moni) of Vancouver; daughter Shelley of Temagami; brother Peter (Helene) of London, ON; sister-in-law Peggy (Arch) of Middleton, NS, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-granchildren. Jack was born and raised in London, Ontario. After completing high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving overseas as a wireless air gunner. While on a search and rescue mission Jack's plane crashed in the North Sea, he was the sole survivor. Jack spent two years in a London hospital and always had fond memories of the nurses who cared for him. Jack loved England and had tears in his eyes when he sailed for home, thinking he'd probably never see her again. Jack moved to Winnipeg where he met and married Pearl in 1946. Jack worked for the T. Eaton Co. for 33 years retiring in 1981. Jack, Pearl and the family enjoyed many wonderful years at the Big Whiteshell lake. After retiring, they travelled a few years in their trailer with the always present pair of Siamese cats. They settled in Victoria for a few years and finally settled in Vancouver permanently. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to all the staff of Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster, BC for the superb care and love they gave both Jack and Pearl. In memory to Jack, donations may be made to CNIB or to the Alzheimers' Society of Canada.
