MURRAY ELCHITZ 1936 - 2008 Suddenly, on June 2, 2008, Murray Elchitz passed away at the age of 72. Funeral services were held June 4 at Congregation Etz Chaim with interment at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Murray leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 46 years, Ellen; sons, Shaen (Heidi), Phillip (Cindy) and Ian (Rory). He was blessed with five grandchildren, Joshua, Brady, Paityn, Trey and Henry, who will carry on the Elchitz name, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were David Singer, Michael Engel and Avrum Charach, Sheldon Stoller, Larry Adelman and Danny Braunstein. Murray was predeceased by his parents Lil and Ben; and sister Ettie Vinitsky. Murray graduated from St. John's Tech and began his career in the field he loved: electronics. He worked at CAE as a Quality Control Inspector where he was recognized for his expertise in the field. His love of airplanes and aviation resulted in his developing his own business, Logitrol, which sold and repaired radio controlled model airplanes. Eventually, he and Ellen launched a new business: Nature's Corner, which distributed nutritional supplements and biodegradable household products throughout Canada. Through their hard work and perseverance, the business flourished and it afforded them the opportunity to travel extensively and to meet people, both of which Murray loved. This period was one of the happiest in Murray's life. He was very active in Computers for Charities, which repaired used computers and donated them to non-profit groups. He was always willing to share his extensive knowledge and experience of all things electronic with whoever needed some help. In 1992, Murray was diagnosed with Parkinson's and in the years that followed, his energies were, of necessity, directed more towards daily contact with his beloved sons, and friends, through the telephone, which became his life line. He was so proud of his sons' accomplishments, and delighted in news about his daughters-in-law and his grandchildren. He always looked forward to their visits. While his health permitted it, Murray was an avid gardener and took great pride in his flower garden and his African violets. In the last three years, Murray enjoyed the time spent at the Charleswood Day Program and the Simkin Centre. The family would like to thank Jeremiah (Jimmy) Cruz and Clyde Friesen for the kind and devoted care they provided to Murray for many years. He will be remembered by family and friends as a warm, affectionate and loving man who loved to tell stories and enjoyed a good laugh. If friends desire, donations in Murray's memory may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, The Parkinson's Society or the charity of your choice.
