FLORENCE IRENE CABLE (nee HOSFIELD) 1925 2008 Peacefully in her sleep Mom passed away June 21, 2008 at the age of 83. She is survived and will be greatly missed by daughters Cherylle and Carol (Steve), sons David (Kathy), Rob (Kim), grandchildren Greg, Lisa (Brian), Derek (Lana), Jamie (Veroniek), Ashley (Ashley), Jessica, Sarah, Kennedy and Kingston, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Amy, Chelsea, Randi, Adrian, Marlies and Reece. Also her brother Harvey (Sonia), special niece Val (Rick) and numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Walter (2001), son-in-law Michael (1973), sister Norma (1989), brother Jim (1988), and best friend Lovie in May 2008. Mom was born in Transcona and spent her whole life there until seven and a half months ago, when due to ill health she moved in with her daughter in East Kildonan. She was a member of St George's Anglican Church and in earlier years had belonged to the AC Women's evening group. Mom, along with our Dad was an avid supporter of her sons' hockey games. It was a fact she carried a heavy purse to games to warn those who would bring harm to her sons. Mom was a fantastic cook and baker. She could knit or crochet things that would merit medals. She was also talented at writing jingles, in fact, one sent in to Safeway won her a car which was also full of groceries. Mom never had a driver's licence, but could be seen riding around town on her bike. Summer weekends and holidays were spent at Nora Lake in the Whiteshell. Many a pickerel fry and blueberry pie were enjoyed there thanks to Mom. Mom suffered a great deal since her stroke and bi-pass surgery in 1989. It gives us comfort to know she is now at peace. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with the Rev. Canon Bob Webster presiding. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
