GWEN (BOWEN-EVANS) MUIR Our mother, grandmother and friend, Gwen (Bowen-Evans) Muir decided it was time to go home on June 19, 2008, just three weeks after her 88th birthday. Gwen's life was marked by some incredible moments, that molded a woman who was strong-willed and always clear about what needed to be done and who needed to do it. She lived through The Depression, attended school in Norwood and married Norwood boy Jack Muir just months before he was shipped off to the Second World War. She worked at Eaton's during the war saving up for when Jack would return. Together they built a house on Eugenie Street that served as a home to raise three children and care for grandchildren with chicken pox or teach them to bake cookies. She was supported by an incredible circle of women friends some who developed The Club in the 1950s, that met one night a month as the original girls' night out . In 1971 she became a Girl Guide leader and for over a decade worked tirelessly for Guiding quickly becoming St. Boniface District Commissioner. In lieu of flowers donations are to be made to Girl Guides of Canada Caddy Lake Camp, 1549 St. Mary's Road, St. Vital, R2M 5G9. The family is especially thankful for the staff at Red River Place in Selkirk who cared for Gwen over the last few years. The Rev. Linda Parsons will lead services at St. Philips Anglican Church, 10:30 a.m. Friday June 27, 240 Tache at Eugenie Street, a church where Gwen received the Order of St. Philip in 1998. Her children Ted, Tom and Shirley; their spouses Marj, Sue and George; grandchildren Sean and his wife Janice; Jennifer, John and Kit, great-granddaughter Natasha, along with Gwen's sister Cathy Sutton and good friend Vera Back, hope you'll join us in celebrating Gwen's life. Wheelchair access is available on the back lane side of the church.
