KATHARINA (TINA) FRIESEN (PAULS) -
Date of Passing: Jun 22, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHARINA (TINA) FRIESEN (nee PAULS) 1912 - 2008 On Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Tabor Home in Morden, MB, Tina Friesen aged 95 years passed away peacefully in her sleep. Tina was born in Grigorievka, Ukraine to Jacob and Maria (nee Unger) Pauls. The Pauls family experienced many hardships during the Russian Revolution. In 1926 the decision was made to immigrate to Canada. Thirteen years old, Tina was in Canada for only one week when she was employed as a housemaid. She gave all her earnings to her parents except what was needed for clothes. After a four month courtship, Tina married Cornelius Friesen on October 14, 1937, in the Alexander Hall in Morden. Cornie and Tina farmed at Sewell for seven years. Then they bought a farm northwest of Morden. For many years Tina found a creative outlet teaching Sunday School to children. Her greatest regret in life was her lack of education. She loved to learn, but her parents decided her education was finished after she completed Grade 6 in Russia. Throughout their years of marriage Tina and Cornie were very involved in church work. Having survived difficult times in Russia, Tina empathized with needy people everywhere. After Cornie's sudden death on May 9, 1996, Tina moved into the Buhler condominium. She spent many happy years living next to her brothers and sisters. Failing eyesight and declining health precipitated her move to Tabor Home in 2005. Tina will be deeply missed by her children, John (Dianna), Jake (Mary-Anne), Evelyn (Leonard) Hoeppner, Shirley (John) Klassen, Paul (Lois), Abe (Lisa Zaretzky); her grand-children, Cory (Rose), Candy (Jeremy), Jeremy (Michelle), Joel (Marina), Merrilee (Kevin), Melanie (Bob), Brent (Nicole), Lorin (Jennifer), Wade, Ryan (Barbara), Jonathan, Matthew, Cara, Reuben, Mark (April), Matthew, Daniel, Elizabeth; her great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah, Ashley, Bailey, Peter, Ethan, Caden. She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Klassen of Winnipeg and one sister-in-law Marge Falk of Morden. She was predeceased by two granddaughters; two sisters and four brothers. Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, 1050 Thornhill St. in Morden on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Morden Mennonite Church, 363 Gilmour St. Interment will take place at Southside Cemetery. Dear Friesen Family, Our thoughts and prayers will be with your family as you lay a dear lady to rest on Friday. We lived next door to your parents from 1980 to 1981. Your mother was a gift from heaven for our family. She was an excellent role model for me, being a friend, offering advice and love, and spiritual encouragement when I needed it most. Our kids called her "Grandma Friesen" and loved her very much. I know that today she is heaven rejoicing to be with her heavely Father who she loved so much.
