ANDRE HENRIE JOSEPH ALARIE Known to many as Andy or Andrew, passed away suddenly at home at the age of 61. Andre was born on May 22, 1947 in Elie, Manitoba. At a young age his family relocated to Powerview, Manitoba where he spent the remainder of his childhood, youth and many of his adult years. He began working at Abitibi Pulp and Paper Mill at 19, then moved to Pine Falls, where he was married and began a family of his own. He remained there until he moved to Winnipeg in 1980. Andy was continuously bettering himself by improving his education and technical skills. He achieved this by attending the University of Winnipeg and taking several technical courses, always scoring very well while concurrently being employed in these same fields. He was especially proud of the Network Support Technician Course which he graduated from in January of 2000 with an exam average of 94.5%. He briefly ran his own construction and renovation company as he was good with his hands and mechanically inclined. It was not uncommon to find Andy engaged in the restoration of old furniture, working on cars, plumbing, carpentry or any other repair. Family and friends could always count on him to fix anything. Andrew was an accomplished amateur musician, singer, songwriter and poet. He played the guitar and harmonica very well and made it look easy. This is a gift he shared with his son. They enjoyed many hours on numerous occasions playing music together. He was a talented artist who especially enjoyed painting with oils and pastels. Over the course of his life, Andy produced many paintings and sketches, many of which adorn the walls in the homes of friends and family. Andy was also involved with volunteer work including: teaching and counselling at the Doncaster Youth Centre, teaching adult literacy, and translating and interpreting for the International Centre of Winnipeg. Andre was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his children, Phillippe Alarie, Nicole (Ken) Kowalchuk, Chantelle Alarie (Rick Macl); grandchildren, Janelle, James, Jordan, Allysandra, Kassandra and Riley; his brother Gilbert (Barbara) Alarie; sisters, Gilberte Harrison, Noelline (Andy) Berthelette, Claire (Norman) Vincent, Simone (Allan) Donnelly, Jeanne (Robert) Poitras, Michelle Alarie (Richard L'Heureux). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Powerview-Pine Falls Catholic Parish at 38 Laura Street, Pine Falls, MB, with Father Gray celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Georges Cemetery.
