MARTIN HIRSCHFIELD July 13, 1929 - June 23, 2008 With sadness, the family announces the passing of Martin, on Monday, June 23 in Seven Oaks Hospital after a struggle with cancer. Remaining to cherish Martin's memory are his wife Elizabeth of 54 years; his sons, Bob (Marilyn), Ronnie, Harvey (Sherry); his grandchildren, Trevor, Melissa (Fraser) of Parksville, BC, Kevin and Kyle (their mother Lynn), Ashlee of Stony Mountain, MB; his brothers, John (Helen) of Steinbach, Albert (Lorraine) of Sundown, MB; brother-in-law Wally (Theresa) Happychuk of Grande Prairie, AB; stepbrother-in-law Bob (Jackie) Lewandiwsky of The Pas, MB. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends and special aunt, Dorothy Davidiuk. He was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Katherina, sister Pauline. Martin grew up in Sundown, MB on the family farm, working on farms and lumber camps. In 1949 he completed a mechanics course at Musker Engineering, worked in various garages in Winnipeg as a mechanic. He started his career at Manitoba Hydro in 1967 as ground man, and after as operator driver (Eastern Region) and retired in July 16, 1989. Martin and Elizabeth enjoyed many years of retirement in Lee River, Lac du Bonnet and then Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Dr. D. Buchel, Dr. M. Kristjanson, the nurses on 4th and 5th floor Unit 2 and 3, and the Palliative Care team, Tammy Lee for their care and compassion, as well thanks to all the family and friends that took time to visit Martin in hospital and at home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seven Oaks Palliative Care. A celebration of Martin's life will take place on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Interment of ashes at Ridgeland Cemetery, Sundown, MB at 4:00 p.m. To place online condolences or to light a memorial candle please go to www.mosaicfunerals.ca.
