MARY ANN DERRY (MAY) MACKENZIE (nee MCILROY) May MacKenzie passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 71. May was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Edward Victor McIlroy and by adoptive sister, Helen Delaney. She is survived by her husband John, daughters Vikki and Shona, sons John (Susan) and Alan (Wanita) and granddaughter Lara, who loves her Granny to bits and pieces . She will also be remembered and missed by Betty, Billy, Lena and other friends and relatives in Inverness, Scotland. May was born in Inverness on February 5, 1937 and moved to Canada with her family in 1964. While her primary job was raising her children, she was also a caregiver in several nursing homes and had fond memories of working at Walter Woods. May loved travelling, rarely missed an episode of Coronation Street and always looked forward to her weekly outings with the Charleswood Adult Day Centre. She also had a beautiful singing voice and a wonderful sense of humour, which held strong to the end. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital (5B) for their compassionate care. May also found spiritual comfort in visits from the hospital chaplain in her final days. A celebration of May's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Voyage Funeral Home at 220 Hespeler Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
