JOSEPH ALEXANDER USHY Joe passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 15, after a courageous battle with Stomach Cancer. He was 89 years young, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn; his loving wife of 42 years, Kay, son Gerald Chapman (Audrey), brother-in-law Ray Dary (Marie), sisters-in-law, Anne Johnson and Jean Ivanicki, together with numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. Joseph Alexander was born on September 27, 1918 in Winnipeg and lived in East Kildonan and Transcona all his life. He served with distinction in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 until 1946, based at the RCAF Flying Boat Station at Alliford Bay in the Queen Charlotte Islands. After his Discharge, in 1946, Joe went to work in the Blacksmith Shops at the CNR Shops in Transcona, until his retirement in 1983. Joseph was a very private man and an attentive husband, whose life was dedicated to his adoring wife Kay. They were always together! Both were hospitalized at the same location until his death. As he wished no fanfare to mark his passing, a private service was held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Knysh Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at the Emerson Cemetery in Emerson, Manitoba. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Concordia Hospital, who cared for Joseph and Kay during the last two months. Their tireless efforts and compassion are a testament to health care in Manitoba. Donations in Joseph's memory may be made to Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
