Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY (HARRY) MUNRO 1912 - 2008 Harry Munro passed at the age of 95 years on June 25, 2008. Harry will be sadly, but lovingly missed by his wife of 72 years, Olive; his children, Barbara (Ron) Clough and Stuart (Lise) Munro; his two grandchildren Kimberley (Henry) Donkers and Shannon (Robert) Bertrand and his three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jack and Ty. He was predeceased by his brothers Bill and Fred Munro. Born and educated in St. Boniface, he lived his entire life in greater Winnipeg. Harry served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1945. He was a working man who recognized the needs of working people which led to his involvement in the union labor movement. Harry's union career dates back to the late 1920s and he had seen and helped bring about more changes than he could care to recall - from within and outside the labor world. While working full-time as a bus driver, Harry was also the recording secretary for his local 1505 of the transit union for 11 years. He went on to be secretary treasurer of the Winnipeg and District Labor Council in 1963, full-time executive secretary of the Council in 1968, retiring in 1977. During his lifetime Harry had been the course co-ordinator for the University of Manitoba-Labour three-year certificate course, chairman of the Education Committee of the Winnipeg Labor Council; chairman of the Winnipeg Housing Authority; executive member and member of the Board of Directors of the Age Opportunity Inc.; member of the Vocational Advisory Committee, Winnipeg School Division #1; vice-chairman of the Winnipeg Police Commission; member of the Board of Directors of the United Way; member of the Board of Directors of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg and served as the president of the Kiwanis Chateau Residence Committee for a number of years. Private family interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at Harry's request. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
