JOSEPHINE (JO) BOYKO Peacefully after a short battle with cancer, Josephine passed away on June 25, 2008 at the age of 83. She is survived by her brother Mervin of Ontario, many nieces and nephews and special friends Norma Ross and Margaret Bishop. She was predeceased by her parents Kornel and Josephine Boyko, brother Maurice and sisters Katherine Mytz, Molly Springett, Mary Seymour, Helen Clutchey and Marg Boyko. Jo was born September 20, 1924 in Kandahar, Saskatchewan, the youngest girl in the family. After completing Grade 8 she moved to Winnipeg where she attended St. Mary's Academy and the University of Manitoba. In 1948 she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Her working career was devoted to the Winnipeg Clinic and in 1984 she retired as Pharmacy Manager. Jo was a member of the McKinnon Guild, a volunteer organization which worked for the Children's Hospital Foundation. She was also a faithful member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Her volunteer work and love for travel to many parts of the world kept her young and involved. Her special place to travel was Hawaii where she made many friends that were dear to her heart. Jo was a caring aunt and family was very important to her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Special thank you to CancerCare St. Boniface and the staff at Grace Hospice for their kindness and care during Aunt Jo's short stay. In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place with a private family interment at a later date at Assumption Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum. Memorial service will be held Monday, June 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue with Father Sam Argenziano officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Inc., 840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 in her memory.
