He also worked with his father, Fire Chief Elmer Gaundroue in Dawson City. Jim had a husky named Dawson that was so special he was used as the model for the Yukon Territory crest. At the age of 18, he joined the Armed Forces and in 1960 was sent overseas, to the Gaza Strip, proudly wearing the Blue Beret of the United Nations Peacekeepers. In 1962 he met the love of his life, Leona Hatch while on a leave in Winnipeg and they were married, August 7, 1963. He was stationed in Calgary, AB for two years before being transferred to Meford, ON. After serving 10 years in the Armed Forces, Jim moved his family to Winnipeg. He then worked for Livingston Mutual Warehousing for 30 years, plus worked part-time for the Imperial Police Patrol and Provincial Parks. In addition to his strong sense of duty to family, Jim's other passions were his love of the outdoors, wildlife and dogs. He was a certified Wildlife and Forestry officer. From 1997 until his retirement due to illness in 2006, James served with the Commissionaires Security; 17th Wing Division, Winnipeg Airport Authority and RCMP Headquarters on Portage Avenue. Jim was predeceased by his father in 1974 and mother Marguerite in 1986. Jim was a very kind and caring person, willing to help anyone and was respected, admired and had a good sense of humour. We would like to thank the nursing staff at the Health Sciences Centre that cared for Jim and a very special thank you to Dr. Kalicinsky and her staff for going the extra mile to discover a cure for his illness.
