Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE MANZA (nee KALDAR) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, Josephine (Josie) Manza, on Friday, June 27, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born Josephine Kaldar in Winnipeg in 1930, and was raised in Gardenton, Manitoba. In 1944, she and her parents moved to Transcona where she lived for most of her life, with the exception of a few years in Calgary. She loved the city of Calgary where she met her good friend, Carolyn Hendrickson, with whom she continued to remain in contact after her return to Winnipeg. Josie had a long working career. She began work at the age of 14 to assist the family financially and continued to work until the time of her retirement at the age of 65. Many of those years were spent as a key-punch operator. She was an avid reader and had a collection of books numbering in the hundreds primarily history and biographies. She loved watching movies, listening to music, sorting her photographs and corresponding with her friends. In 1963, she married Fred Manza, whom she met at the age of 14. Although their marriage ended after a number of years, they remained close friends and companions until his death in 2007. Fred's daughter Lisa, and her son Anthony, were like her own family and she loved them very much. Josie was predeceased by her mother, Florence, in 1996, and her stepfather, Bill, in 1995. She is survived by three brothers, Boris, Jim and David Todoruk, and one sister, Jeanne Todoruk. She will be dearly missed by the Manza family - - Fred's three sisters, Eda, Helen and Jean; also their children and grandchildren. She is already very much missed by her precious little Kitty . Josie's closest friend was Olga Stelmach. They met as teenagers and Olga was a kind and loyal friend to Josie until the end. She also thought the world of Olga's children, Bob and Paula, and their families. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, No. 1 Hwy. E. Navin Rd., with Deacon Paul Martin officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. We wish to thank all those who visited Josie in the hospital and provided support to the family during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the kind staff at Concordia Hospital. I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted its white sails with a golden light. and as it disappeared from view, a voice at my side whispered, She is gone. But the sea was a narrow one, and on the furthest shore, A little band of friends had gathered to watch in happy expectation. Suddenly, they caught sight of the tiny sail. And at the very moment when my companion had whispered, She is gone, a glad shout went up in joyous welcome with the words, Yes, here she comes!
