GEORGE E. DYCK On June 27, 2008 at the Riverview Health Centre, George, in the presence of his wife and son, passed away peacefully following a brief illness. George is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; son Matthew and granddaughter Katana. He is also survived by brother Ron (Doreen); sisters, Shirley and Anna, all of BC, his brothers-in-law Alton of Ontario, Grant of Nova Scotia, Graham (Donna) of Georgia, as well as many nieces and nephews. George was born December 9, 1939 in Sand Beach, SK and then moved to Manitoba at the age of 10. Shortly thereafter an accident left George in a wheelchair. At this time George benefitted from the guidance of Tony Mann of the Canadian Paraplegic Association. Tony empowered George to achieve a fulfilling, independent life. George attended the U of M graduating with a BSC in 1964. He was a graduate of the first class of Nuclear Medicine Technologists from Manitoba in 1967, and obtained a Master's of Science degree in 1980.George was an instructor in Nuclear Medicine at the Health Sciences Centre then at RRCC, retiring in 1997. During his career he was an active member of the Manitoba Association of Radiological Technologists and was honoured for his contribution by receiving the Bill Doern Service Award in 1987. Volunteering was an important part of George's life after retirement. He served on numerous boards and committees in various positions. Some of these positions were, Wheelchair Sports, Canadian Paraplegic Association, Handi-Transit advisory Committee, ILRC Kite Festival, 1010 Sinclair Housing, Manitoba Social Services Appeal Board, Canadian Centre on Disability Studies, including five trips to Russia advocating for people with disabilities. George's other interests included playing and listening to Blue Grass music, playing pool, crosswords, painting, sitting in the sun, traveling, and time with family and friends. Funeral mass will be held on, Thursday, July 3 at 11:00 a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, with Fr. Carl Tarnopolski the Celebrant. The family wishes to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba, Home Care, Palliative Care and Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one of the following charities. What a privilege it was to serve on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Centre for Disability Studies with George as our President. To you, Marjorie, I express my condolence and sympathy.
