VERA NAVIS After a lengthy illness, it is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved mother, Vera Ann Navis (nee Stoyko) at the age of 67 years on June 28, 2008. Vera leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, Michael, Richard (Theresa), and Christie, as well as her grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua, brother Roman Stoyko, sister-in-law Jody, her brothers-in-law Brian (Norma) and Alan Gwizon (Bonnie), and her nieces and nephews, Ian, Neil, Ashleigh, and Erin. Vera was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband of 42 years, Clifford Navis in May of 2003, her father, Alexander Stoyko in 1970, her mother Anna in 1956 and her brothers Gerald Stoyko and Robert Stoyko. Vera was born in Winnipeg on February 22, 1941 and grew up in the Point Douglas area near downtown. She always kept fond memories of the school years of her youth, attending Argyle Elementary, as well as St. Nicholas and St. John High Schools. Mom was especially skilled at Ukrainian dancing, playing the violin and had a beautiful singing voice. Vera enjoyed a career working at Revenue Canada in which she was a valued and loyal employee for 25 years. She began her working career doing clerical duties and office management at various auto dealerships through the 60s and 70s and she always cherished the remembrances of those early days. Vera always had a zest for life, and her fondest memories were of the many family vacations that she shared with her husband and children through the years. She also enjoyed her arts and crafts hobbies and looked forward to Friday nights at the legion with her bingo buddies, Marcie and Val, as well as her longest and dearest friend, Lesia Borys. A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, July 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1161 Fife St. corner of Fife St. and Church Ave. with father Michael Krochak officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Center and the nurses through the palliative program with Manitoba Regional Health Authority who provided Vera with much care and comfort in her remaining months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice.
