OLGA GARLINSKI (nee CHUDYK) Peacefully and surrounded by her loving family, our beloved wife, mother, aunt, great-aunt, sister-in-law, godmother, and friend passed away on Monday, June 30, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Stan of 38 years; daughter Lisa (John) Sigurdson; son Brad (Sharlene) Garlinski; sisters-in-law Anne Chudyk of Dauphin, MB and Anne Chudyk of Fork River, MB; brother-in-law Peter Billay of Winnipegosis, MB; and sisters and brothers-in-law of the Garlinski family. Olga will also lovingly be remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends. Olga was predeceased by her parents Nick and Anne Chudyk; brother John Chudyk; sister Mary and brother-in-law Mike Beyak; sister Zena and brother-in-law Peter Zwarych; sister Stella and brother-in-law Mike Atamanchuk; brother Fred Chudyk; sister Norma Billay; nieces Valerie Chudyk and Phyllis Warren; nephew Donnie Beyak; and great-nephew Scott Warren. Olga was born on November 4, 1938 in Winnipegosis, MB as the youngest of seven children. She attended school in Rice Lake, Fork River, and then graduated at the age of 16 from the Dauphin Collegiate in 1955 with an honours third year commercial diploma. After graduating, Olga was employed as a secretary with the Province of Manitoba for 13 years followed by the University of Winnipeg for five years. Olga and Stan were married on April 4, 1970 in Winnipeg. Olga continued working until the arrival of her children, after which she became a full time homemaker and mother. Olga was completely devoted to her family and thoroughly enjoyed hosting many gatherings and family dinners. Everyone enjoyed her delicious cooking and baking. She was an expert with many Ukrainian dishes. Olga practiced all of our Ukrainian traditions with pride. She enjoyed gardening, making preservatives, ceramics, bowling with various leagues, and playing card games, especially Cribbage and King Pedro. Olga enjoyed travelling and we have several wonderful memories of family vacations. In their retirement years, Olga and Stan enjoyed many trips together to both favourite and new places. Olga gave of her time by volunteering at her childrens' schools, church functions, and also served as a member of the Catholic Women's League of Christ the King Parish for 24 years. In 1989, Olga obtained her Child Care Worker I certificate in order to work with various Y-Neighbour groups, caring for preschool children. Wherever Olga went, she was immediately recognized as having a warm and genuine personality, and frequently put others' needs ahead of her own. She was always concerned about others and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or just listen and offer support. Though Olga was challenged at points in life with health problems, she demonstrated unwavering religious faith, dignity, resilience, and courage until her passing. She was determined not to let things interfere with her goals. Prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, with viewing from 7:00 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 847 St. Mary's Road. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 5, at 10:00 a.m., with viewing from 9:30 a.m., also at Christ the King Church. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Dr. Marianne Krahn and staff of St. Boniface CancerCare Manitoba, Lymphadema Therapist Catherine Russell, Dr. L. M. da Silva, Father Renato Pasinato, and the staff of Riverview Palliative Care 3East who cared for our mother and provided excellent family support. Also thank you to the wonderful staff of Split Ends Salon, who always treated our mother with such care and concern, and to the many family and friends who visited Olga and supported our family during this time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 304-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg MB, R3C 4C6, phone 231-4885. We love you and cannot express how much we will miss you. You will always be in our hearts and lives and we will rely on your guidance from heaven in the years to come. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 982-7550
