HARRY WINTER August 4, 1917 - June 28, 2008 Harry passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre on June 28, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Christina (Hunter), son Robert Charles wife Maryann, chosen daughter Shelly (Roy) Hunter, six grandchildren, Jeff, Rob (Jen), Chris, Yvonne, Lyndsay all of whom he was very proud. Also by one sister Emily Bergmann and sister-in-law Jessie Winter as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special young man Kevin Funk (godson). Harry was predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Katharina Winter, and siblings, Peter, Jake, Helen, Mary, Charles, John, Martha, Sara, Lydia and Ben. Harry was born at Hope Farm, Montcalm District, moving to Winkler in 1918. He served his country overseas from 1939 to 1945 with the First Motor Ambulance Convoy. The camaraderie, which lasted until the present. Upon returning to Winnipeg he married his loving wife in 1946. Harry served an apprenticeship in Carpentry that became his lifelong career, working on many of Winnipeg's major buildings, while also building his own home of 50 years in his spare time. He also served as President of the Carpenters Union Local 343 and was an active member for 50 years, making friendships, which he valued greatly. In retirement he travelled to Australia, Britain, Continental Europe, also spending winters in Florida. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre where he was a resident for the last three months. Memorial services will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church, 197 Browning, on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please HELP A CHILD. Harry's two favorite charities were Salvation Army and Anishinabe Mission, or please bring a tin for the Winnipeg Harvest bin.
