JOHN AKKERMAN It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Akkerman on June 24, 2008 in Vancouver, BC following a brief illness. John was predeceased by his sister Elisabeth Andrich in 1985, his father John in 1988 and his niece Jennifer Dennehy in 1994. John will be missed by his loving wife Chris, who was his anchor and soul mate for 32 years, his son Sean (LeeAnn), his grandchildren, Jessica and Dylan of Sandy Hook, his mother Elizabeth, his twin sister Bea of Winnipeg, his sister Niki (David) of Burlington, his brother Paul (Starla) of Calgary, and numerous family members both in Canada and The Netherlands where he was born in 1946. John had a keen intellect but sensitive soul and was a man of few words. All his life he had a passion for music; especially the blues. He loved to play bridge, read voraciously, excelled in gourmet cooking and had a soft spot in his heart for his beloved cats. In his spare time he lived to play tennis and was a wicked competitor. He had an innate and expensive sense of style and worked at Harry Rosen in Vancouver for many years. As he wished, cremation has taken place and private family gatherings to celebrate his life are pending in Vancouver and Winnipeg. To everything there is a season
