Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERSCHAL BOOKHALTER Herschal Bookie Bookhalter passed away at his home in Edmonton, Alberta on Monday, June 23, 2008 at the age of 85. Herschal was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Hyman Bookhalter. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, most especially his devoted wife Elaine, sister Libby Greenfield of Winnipeg, son David, daughter Sharon, son-in-law Jerry Glasser, grandsons Joshua and Elli, many nieces and nephews as well as extended family throughout the world and countless friends. Herschal was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Invermay, Saskatchewan. In 1941, he enlisted in the Canadian army and served for 3 ½ years during the Second World War. In 1951, he married Elaine Tulman and shortly after moved to Edmonton. In addition to his professional career as Manager of Hector Steel and later Russelsteel, Bookie was extensively involved in not only the Jewish community of Edmonton but the Edmonton community at large as well as numerous charitable organizations. In 2002, he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal in recognition of his community service. He will be missed by many.
