KATHLEEN (KAY) SINCLAIR Kathleen was born June 4, 1915 in Wingham, Ontario and moved to Toronto at an early age. She was the oldest child of Norman Tooke and Jean Isabel Sinclair. Kathleen was predeceased by her younger sister Helen. As a young teenager Kathleen moved to Winnipeg and lived here until the time of her death. Kathleen grew up in a household that valued education, community life and political awareness. She loved politics and listening to daily news casts on television and CBC radio throughout her lifetime. Kathleen's father had a strong commitment and belief that more fortunate men and women in society should not pursue employment opportunities while those less fortunate needed employment to survive. As a result, Kathleen earned a BA from the University of Manitoba during the depression years. Kathleen began her employment as a temporary staff person in the Winnipeg CBC newsroom. She remained working in the newsroom throughout her years of employment. Kathleen enjoyed reading and traveling. She was particularly fond of historical reading material. She traveled worldwide with her sister and in earlier times with her mother. A favourite form of vacation was a cruise on a ship. In her retirement years Kathleen took on the responsibility of planning for herself and Helen. She ensured they were both well looked after, and she arranged their move into the Portsmouth Retirement Residence where they both resided until they deceased. Kathleen was a forthright intelligent woman who was considered to be ahead of her time in her thinking and her ideas. She was interested in the world around her and she kept up with current events. She lived her life in her own way and earned the respect of all that knew her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July, 10 at 10:30 a.m. in Portsmouth Retirement Residence, 125 Portsmouth.
