GORDON SHERATON DREWE November 8, 1927 - July 2, 2008 It is with much sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Gordon Sheraton Drewe aged 80 years of Hilbre, Manitoba, on July 2 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alphild (Al); his children, Catherine (Glenn), Karen (Andrew), David (Christine); grand-children, Gordon, Amanda, Megan and great-grandson Cody; four brothers-in-law, Harold (Joyce), Ted (Claudette), Victor (Joyce) and Don; nieces and nephews, David, Connie and Greg, Donna and Neil and Erik. He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Dorothy Drewe. Gordon was born November 8, 1927 in Winnipeg, the only child of Alfred and Dorothy (nee Sheraton) Drewe. His early years were spent in Fort Rouge. He was baptized at St. Luke's Anglican Church, where for many years he sang in the church choir. He lived on Daly Street with his parents and later with his family on Jessie Avenue. He attended Earl Grey and Kelvin Schools in that same area. In 1945 Gord began his career with the Manitoba Telephone System then took early retirement in 1983. In 1957 Dad and Mom moved the family to Willis Road in West St. Paul. Gord was, for many years, Scout Master and Venture leader with the First Rivercrest Scout Troop. Dad was an active member of St. Paul's Middlechurch, serving as a warden, sang in the choir and served on vestry. In 1992 Dad and Mom retired to Hilbre and the country life which he loved so much. Here Dad enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds that fed at his numerous feeding stations. He kept detailed daily records of bird sightings and weather events. He loved to travel, be it to visit family from coast to coast or the many trips shared with the BS Travel Group. Last year he visited the birthplace of his ancestors in Devon, England, and made the acquaintance of two distant cousins. He always enjoyed relaxing with a good book, good music and a glass of fine scotch. The family wishes to thank Drs. Lee Isaacs and Brian Ritchie and the nurses through the Palliative Care Program with Manitoba Regional Health Authority, Home Care Worker Dion, Drs. Crawford and Pilkey and the staff at the Riverview Health Centre. Thank you all for your compassion and care for Dad. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation at #1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 9Z9 or a charity of your choice. Two services will be held: Eucharist and celebration of Gord's life will be held on Monday July 7, at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Paul's Anglican Church on Balderstone Road in West. St. Paul, with Rev. Simon Blaikie officiating. Funeral Mass will be held at 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at St. Helen's Anglican Church in Fairford, MB with Father Ron McCullough officiating.
