Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Maureen (Richard) Pennefather of Burlington, Ontario; granddaughters Elizabeth Pennefather of Burlington, Ontario, Marcia Pennefather and great-grandson Liam of Raleigh, North Carolina and daughter-in-law Tracy Semmer of Winnipeg. Madeline will be sadly missed by her dear niece Helen (Rich) Stovel of Victoria, BC. Great aunt to Carl (Sue) Stovel, Trish Stovel, Marnie Stovel of Victoria, BC and William Stovel of Winnipeg and their children. Madeline was predeceased in 1994 by her husband Hilliard, her devoted son Brett Taylor in 2004 and her sister-in-law Betty Taylor in 1994. Her parents Benjamin and Mary (nee Brett) Vigus predeceased her. Siblings, William Reginald (Rex), Laura and Gertrude Govan predeceased her and more recently her two nephews Duncan (Paddy) Govan and Reg Govan. Madeline will be remembered for her beautiful smile, warmth, charm, and her unconditional love and support to her children and relatives. Her generous nature, wit, wisdom, and opinions (often unsolicited) will be missed. She was a mentor to many family members in their formative years as well as being a friend to those much younger as hers was a cross generational appeal. A remarkable lady, she could handle any situation gracefully. Madeline was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The family lived in Rutland, BC and Winnipeg. She went to St. John's High School in Winnipeg. Madeline and Hill met at Congdon Marsh Ltd. where they worked and were married on October 8, 1938. In the early years in St. Vital, Madeline played in a women's bridge club and she and Hill played in a mixed bridge group. Madeline and Hill enjoyed many Christmas visits to Ontario to see their granddaughters. Madeline was a member of UCW Unit 13. Special thanks to all the caring staff of 2D at Riverview Health Centre especially Shirley Kostur, Unit Manager, Sheldon Beel and Pia Muer. Many thanks to family, friends and neighbours Dave and Lynn Sexton and Linda McCormack who helped Maddie remain at home for as long as possible.
