ERNEST FERDINAND MEISNER March 3, 1937 - July 5, 2008 God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. At his residence, The Wood Man Ernie Meisner passed away at the age of 71. He leaves to mourn his passing, Jacki, his wife of 48 years; daughters Kim (Karl), Cheryl (Ron), Svava (Bill), Susan (Ron); grandchildren Brittany (Kris), J.J., Kelson, Joshua, Jacquie, Roxanne, Jacob and Joey; great-granddaughter Willow, born July 8, 2008; sisters Tillie, Lydia, Helen, Myrtle (Tom) and Allie (Happy); brothers Harry (Helen), Carl, Alfred (Rosemary), Richard and Reinnie; sisters-in-law Runi, Kris (Alf), Laverne (Chuck) and Helen; Godchildren Dennis, Doreen, Dianne, Peter and Brendalee, along with many more nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Emil and Emma; sisters Martha, Elsie; brothers Raymond, Eddy, Bill and Pete; in-laws Gertrude and Gudjon Bjornsson; an infant daughter; grandson Jonathon and son-in-law Gerald. Ernie was the 11th child born to Emil and Emma. He went to school in Bayton and attended the St. Thomas Lutheran Church. He worked in the mines in Balmertown in Ontario, Canada Packers in Winnipeg, Moosehorn Creamery and in 1968 started on the CNR tracks. He retired from CN in 1997. His retirement was spent hauling wood from the bush and helping friends make hay. He had a large garden, enjoying canning and giving his family and friends the products of labour. Ernie was an avid card player all his life. In 1975 he found the friendship of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was an active member until his passing. Ernie was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Moosehorn, serving nine years on council, as well as a volunteer fireman for the RM of Grahamdale. For the last four years he fought his cancer with courage and humour. He will be remembered with love and laughter. According to his wishes, Ernie has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008, at the Moosehorn Community Hall with Pastor Gary Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., ON 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. In the Forest Among the Trees! If you're filled with woes and worry If you're mighty hard to please Take a rest forget troubles In the forest among the trees! If the grind has kinda got you And you'd like a little ease Just lubricate the friction In the forest among the trees! With the campfire burning brightly Gather round and warm your knees You'll find a restful haven In the forest among the trees! With surroundings bright and cheery With freedom like the bees Just a little bit of Heaven In the forest among the trees!
