Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT DALRYMPLE 1932-2008 Passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 11, 2008 after retiring the previous evening. Robert was predeceased in 1994 by his wife Margaret, who taught mathematics at Pierre Radisson Collegiate and Windsor Park Collegiate in Winnipeg. He is survived by his son Neil Dalrymple, his daughters Margaret Kelly and Mary Ashcroft and their families. Robert grew up on a dairy farm in Bothwell, Scotland. In 1958, he immigrated to Canada with his wife Margaret and his two daughters. Robert served in the City of Winnipeg Fire Department for 29 years and retired with the rank of Captain from Station #4 in Osborne Street Village. During his career, he attended many serious fires including fires at Ogilvie Flour Mill and Elim Chapel. Over his lifetime, Robert participated in a number of recreational sports including soccer, car racing, boxing, swimming, running, surfing and para-sailing. At age 50, he completed the Manitoba Half-Marathon with fellow firefighter Ron Fehr. Robert and Margaret bred and raced thoroughbreds at Assiniboia Downs for close to 30 years. A fond memory was the occasion when his horse Northern Quill, with jockey Ken Hendricks aboard, crossed the finish line to win the inaugural running of the R.C. Anderson Memorial Stakes. Robert was joined by family, friends and trainer Clayton Gray in the winner's circle that day. Many thanks to Winnipeg travel agents at Continental Travel and Carlson Wagonlit for arranging so many terrific holidays that Robert enjoyed in the Maritimes, British Columbia, southern United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean, Great Britain and New Zealand. At Robert's request, cremation has taken place and a private service will take place at a later date. The family has made a donation to the Winnipeg Firefighters Burn Fund Inc. Flowers are gratefully declined.

I live in the house in Bothwell that was Robert's family home. I met him in the 1990s when he visited Scotland. I invited him in for tea and to look around the house . He was friends with my neighbours mum when he lived in Bothwell - Posted by: Frances Lafferty (None ) on: Mar 03, 2023

I am writing for my (late) mother, Alice, and my father, Virgil Duffy. When they met at the condos in Bucerias, Mexico, Bob introduced himself saying in his Scottish brogue, 'My name is Boob' and he has remained 'Boob' to our family ever since. He was always caring and loving to my Mom (with their Scottish heritage in common) and has been a faithful friend to Dad, and especially since my Mom's passing. My Dad will sorely miss his phone conversations with Boob. Our sincere sympathy to all his family. He will always remain in our hearts. - Posted by: Gwendolyn Studnick (Family) on: Jul 20, 2008
