Date of Passing: Jul 16, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRANDY HONKE After a long battle with cancer Randy Honke passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2008 with his family by his side. Randy is mourned by his loving wife of 36 years Gwen, and his sons, Johnathan (Adrienne) and Jeremy (Christine). He is also survived by his mother Lydia, brother Lloyd, sisters Marjorie (Marvin), Delores (Eric) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Randy was predeceased by his father Andrew, his sister-in-law Karen, and nephew Richard. Randy was born in Terrace, BC, September 8, 1946, and moved to Manitoba with his family in the summer of 1948. He has always been an avid outdoorsman, finding pleasure in weekend adventures with his family, ranging from fishing and hunting to mushroom and berry picking at highly guarded family locations. He began his career with the Public Works Department of the Federal Government in 1966. After holding numerous positions within the Government, and building many lifelong friendships, Randy retired in 2005 after 39 years of service. With his retirement Randy was able to re-invest himself in what he enjoyed most, time with his family. Numerous trips to the States for shopping, curling bonspiels with Gwen, or hunting and fishing trips with his sons were what brought him enjoyment. At this time he also began a new passion, fly fishing. Randy will be sadly missed by many. The family would like to thank the staff at the Oncology Clinic at the Concordia Hospital, and Dr. Harris, for their compassion and care during Randy's final days. At Randy's request, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his loving memory to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A 1P6.
