Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURA WIEBE (nee WALL) Quietly at home, on Thursday, July 17, 2008 Laura went to the Lord. Laura will be forever remembered by her husband of 52 years Ed Wiebe and their children, Paul, Mary Ann and Allan, her sisters Mary, Agatha and Anne, all of British Columbia, brothers Ed and Lester as well as Ed's family and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by one daughter Lynda Susan and her parents John and Susannah Wall, brothers John and Alex and sister Sue Smith. Born and raised in Plum Coulee, she attended Grade XII at Winkler Collegiate, Manitoba Normal School and University of Winnipeg. She taught elementary school in Southern Manitoba and in Winnipeg at Mulvey, Inkster and Principal Sparling Schools. After 12 years at home with her four children she returned to teaching when the Czech refuges arrived in Winnipeg in 1969. In need of English language classes, Winnipeg School Division #1 together with the then new organization, International Centre, set up classes on William Avenue with Laura as the first Teacher and Program Coordinator for 20 years. The program grew to 60 teachers in 1988 when she retired. She remained as Teacher of Prospective Canadian Citizens at the International Centre for another eight years preparing them for the hearing with the Canadian Citizenship Judge. She loved her people and working with many refugee groups. Laura volunteered extensively, working with World Vision, Spence Street Thrift Store, Good Neighbors Senior Centre, Treasure Cove Volunteer and until recently as a member of Choristers Choir. She was a lifetime volunteer at her church in many leadership capacities. A memorial service in celebration of Laura's life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Garry Fries presiding. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. E. Braun, 3rd Floor, West Wing staff at Concordia Hospital and most specially the Palliative Care staff, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Chaplain Garry Fries.
