WALTER WHITE 1929 - 2008 After an active fun filled life, Walter passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2008 at the age of 79, surrounded by his wife and family. Walter was born March 29, 1929 in Ontario. At the age of 21 he headed west, settling in Winnipeg, where he met the love of his life, Shirley Conquergood. They were married in 1952 and had a wonderful 56 years together. They raised five loving kids: Margaret (Allan) Young, Irene (Roger) Matas, Sheila (Bill) Coggan, Gail (David) Byington, Lyle (Alain Thibaudeau) White; six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Walter and Shirley moved to Kelowna in 1979 where they have met many dear friends. All his life Walter had a passion for sports and horses. In 1996 Walter founded the Okanagan Children's Wish Horse Trailride, which over the years has grown to include many other communities to become the Provincial Trailride to raise money for the Children's Wish Foundation. This had become his true passion. Many thanks to the Palliative Care nurses, Dr. Van Heerden and the staff at the Cancer Clinic. As per Walter's request, he has been cremated. A Family Service and interment will be held at a later date at Lilyfield Cemetery in Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Yukon/BC Chapter, Unit 119-4240 Manor Street, Burnaby, BC, V5G 1B2. A gift in living memory of Walter will be made to Hospice Care by Springfield Funeral Home.
