HIRAM WALTER (POP) JONES April 28, 1924 July 17, 2008 Peacefully, Pop passed away in Mom's arms with the family near by on Thursday evening July 17. Pop was predeceased by his parents, siblings and son Jimmy. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and children, Ken (Marian), John (Barbara), Ron, Dorothy (Darrell), Jerry, Doug (Debbie) and Tim (Lucy); 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pop was born on April 28, 1924 in Rosewood, Manitoba where he grew up on the family farm. Just barely of age, he enlisted in the army (Canadian Artillery) and went off to war with his older brothers. Three and a half years later, he returned back to the farm with his new bride Dorothy, who he married in Apeldorne Holland on November 8, 1945. Over the next few years the family grew as they continued to farm the land and raising animals, with horses being his favorite. In 1958, they moved into the city where he started working in the construction trade, with carpentry being one of his specialties. When the house became too big for them, they purchased land and built their retirement home in the Lac Du Bonnet area. They made many new friends and spent many relaxing years playing crib and Pop playing horseshoes. Due to health reasons, in 2003, they moved back to Winnipeg to be closer to their family. The family would like to thank the staff on 3rd floor unit 4, at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and compassion, with special thanks to nurse Yamileth Orellana. A service celebrating Pop's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street. A private interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations in Hiram's memory, may be made to Winnipeg Harvest or a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Memorial Gardens 4477 Main Street 982-8318
