He was born in Chatfield, Manitoba, December 16, 1938 to William and Anne Slobodian (Shushkewich). Remembering him with love is Ingrid, his wife of 46 years; his three daughters, Kathleen (Paul) Clarke, Lynelle (Joel) Wisneski and Joanna Slobodian (Kevin Grant); five precious grandchildren, Charlie and Daniel Clarke, Caroline, Jaden and Katrina Wisneski; sisters, Jean (Willi) Schamberger, Karen (Reg) Kozub; step brother Orest (Doris) Alison; also Ingrid's siblings, Ragnar Gislason, Joy (Bob) Antenbring, Elaine (Tom) Mansfield, Pat (Dave) Campbell; all his beloved nieces and nephews; wonderful exchange student Monika Lüdi and her family; and many friends and their families. Joe approached life full bore with enthusiasm and dedication. His varied career spanned many years with Manitoba Telephone System; Doral International; and J.S. Custom Services. He retired in 1999 from Sunwest Screen Graphics where he worked in various capacities from the founding years of the company. Throughout his working years his co-workers and associates admired his kindness and great sense of humor. Joe adored Ingrid and his girls, lending support to their lives, valuing their families, friends and activities. He graced every gathering with his fun loving, generous spirit. He enjoyed the many friends he made through his work, music, and sports, always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. He loved his lifelong pals from school days at Argyle, Mulvey and Gordon Bell Schools, and throughout his life participated in golf, baseball, volleyball, hockey, judo, and curling. Joe was an avid Jets hockey fan and trivia buff extraordinaire. He joined the Westwood Community Band in the early 80's, contributing much in spirit and enthusiasm to all aspects of the organization. We wish to thank his many band friends, who exemplify the meaning of community. For the last four years Joe developed new friends among the residents and staff at Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home. They enjoyed his gentle manner and as always, his sense of humor. Joe was also a member of Silver Heights United Church, Khartoum Shrine Orchestra, River East Community Band, and was a volunteer for the Christmas Cheer Board. We thank all our family and friends for their love and support during Joe's long illness. We will always remember the twinkle in his eyes and the joy in his heart. Thumbs up!
