Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE ASSELIN (nee BEAUGRAND DIT CHAMPAGNE) January 23, 1919 - July 20, 2008 Peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2008, Florence Asselin, aged 89, passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of 30 years Marcel; her seven stepchildren: Jeannine (Ken Eisner), Robert (Hélène Granger), Yvonne (Eric Wees), René (Claire Bilodeau), Louise (Norm Lévêque), Charles (Carol Beggs) and Pierrette (Bill McTavish); 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Florence is also survived by her brothers Alfred Champagne (Jeanette) and Joe Champagne (Doreen); her sisters Denise Normandeau, Irène Lagacé and Claire Bohémier, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Alphonse and Francesca; her brothers, Gustave, Roland and Lucien and her sisters, Simone Asselin, Béatrice Girouard and Lucille Champagne. Flo worked for Monarch Life for 39 years. She was a little social butterfly with the nickname of Bubbles . She was a great wife and companion to Dad. They wintered in Arizona for many years and travelled throughout Europe, the U.S. and Canada. For many years, Dad and Flo enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake of the Woods. Later on, they had a place on Lake Manitoba where we had many family gatherings. Flo always had a keen sense of humour and was very young at heart. She was what you call Mod . Flo was Dad's second wife; with grace and love she became our step-mom, grandmother to our children and great-grandmother to their children. Though she suffered in the past year, she never complained. She was always interested in what was happening with the rest of the family. She was less than five feet tall but she was a giant of a woman. She was greatly loved and admired and we will miss her very much. The family would like to thank the staff on 5E Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation to the charity of their choice. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25 at the Précieux-Sang Roman Catholic Church, 200 Kenny Street. A private interment will take place at the St. Boniface Cemetery.
