Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR GARN April 21, 1919 July 19, 2008 We are deeply saddened to announce that in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 19, 2008 Dad was called home to his Lord and Saviour. Remaining to forever cherish Dad's memory are his two daughters Linda and Elaine (Russell); grandchildren Sheri (Tom, Kayla and Tyler) Jeff and Devin (Nicole); and his adoring great-grandchild Isabella; sister Edith and special canine friend Ralph. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lily; daughter Doreen; baby son at birth; his parents; and his siblings Emmy, Alma, Ada and Emil. The second youngest child of Emma and Rudolf, Dad grew up on the family farm near Winnipeg. In his 20s, he fell in love with Lily whom he married on September 9, 1944 enjoying more that 54 years of happiness together raising three girls until Mom's passing on July 12, 1999. We could not have asked for better parents. Dad started with farming and later worked very hard in the construction industry until his retirement at age 72. While he enjoyed his work, his heart remained with farming. After his family, his next love was fishing which he enjoyed every summer until his passing. Dad was an avid gardener specializing in tomatoes and flowers. Dad's funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward Street, with Pastor Jan Pastucha presider. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. Special thanks to dad's homecare workers, doctors, nurses and aides at SOGH third floor unit 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 730 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3M 2K8.
