Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHORSTEIN (STEINE) SIGURDUR JOHANSON Peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Portage District General Hospital, Thorstein Johanson, beloved husband of Marian, passed away at the age of 84 years. Steine will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years Marian, daughter Judy, son Murray and wife Linda, grandchildren, Trevor and Haylee, brother Cliff (Lois), sister Helga McNeill, sister-in-law Grace Johanson, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Johan and Bertha, brothers, Joe, Barney and Ole, and sisters, Beatrice Clark, Sarah Bott and Laura Bott. Steine was born on August 29, 1923 in the Hollywood district and attended Hollywood School. He started farming at a young age and fished on Lake Manitoba for several years. He married Marian Carson on October 11, 1947 and they continued farming until 1981 when they retired in Portage la Prairie. His son Murray has continued to farm and Steine was able to enjoy the commemoration of the centennial of the family farm in 2004. Steine was always willing to help others and he was active in the Langruth community. He was a trustee of the Langruth School Board and the Pine Creek School Division, an honourary member of the Langruth Legion No. 162 and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Langruth. Steine was past exalted ruler and life member of the BPO Elks Langruth No. 359. He enjoyed curling and was on the curling committee for many years. Steine and Marian had many enjoyable trips, including trips to Iceland, England, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, The United States and Canada. Steine found much pleasure in gardening and woodworking. He made several clocks and other useful items. He liked playing cards and enjoyed being with his family at family get-togethers. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Phyllis Thordarson. Interment will take place in the Langruth Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Steine's memory to Grace Lutheran Church, Box 238, Langruth, MB R0H 0N0 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 21 Royal Road S.
