JEAN WORKMAN (nee BARCHUK) On Friday, July 18, 2008 Jean died at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish Jean's memory are her brother Tony Barchuk of Winnipeg; son Rick Workman (Claire) of Winnipeg; daughter Janice Kristensen (Brian) of Calgary; and grandchildren Laura and Paul Workman. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Barchuk; brothers Joe, Mike, and Frank Barchuk; and sister Bertha Duncan, of Vancouver. Born August 18, 1922, Jean grew up in Winnipeg, where she attended St. John's High School. Here she met Robert (Bob) Workman and they married in 1944. After the war, Bob convinced Jean to move to a farm in the municipality of Springfield where they grain farmed and Bob also worked on the CNR. In later years Jean worked part time at Eatons. They had a wonderful life together living on their farm and upon Bob's retirement, enjoyed traveling. After Bob's death, in 1992, Jean moved back to Winnipeg to be near her family. In her latter years her health declined significantly. She was always devoted to her family and loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren, Laura and Paul. She will be greatly missed by them. Jean's funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm Street (Grant and Elm). Our family wants to especially thank Dr. Margaret Ochanska for the outstanding care she has provided, especially during the last two years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ms7 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9.
