BRIAN DOUGLAS SCHWARTZ 1948 - 2008 Suddenly on July 17, 2008, at his home in Miami, MB, Brian Schwartz aged 60 years went to his eternal rest. Brian will be forever missed and remembered by his sisters, Shirley (Bob) Saunders, Donna (Norman) Kirby, Marlien Gurney and Janet (Gordon) Klaassen. He also leaves to mourn his nephews and nieces Bob (Donna), Paul (Lynda), Carla (Gordon), Valerie (Wade), Douglas (Lorette), Ron, Beverley (Jerry), Michael (Melissa), Stacy, Joseph, numerous other family members and friends. He was predeceased his mother Clara, father Paul, and brother-in-law Tim Gurney Brian was born in Winnipeg on January 28, 1948. His formative years were spent on the family farm near Deerhorn. After graduating Lundar Collegiate, he attended RRCC obtaining a degree in electronics. In 1971 he moved to Miami and opened a TV sales and service shop which he operated until 1978. He began driving school bus as a spare in 1973 and full time in 1977 for the Midland S.D. Brian was very active in community affairs in Miami and the municipality of Thompson. He was elected village councillor in 1986 and reeve in 1989 and was currently serving his 5th term in that office. As reeve he has served 15 years on the MSTW planning district board. He enjoyed many sports including hockey, curling and softball and in his later years golf was his passion. He was icemaker at the curling rink for 10 years. He was instrumental in the construction and operation of the Miami Golf and Country Club. For many years he coached the Swan River Selects senior women's fast pitch ball team and led them to provincial titles in 1986 and 1988. He sat on the MSA board as a fast pitch director for 6 years and he was an executive member of the Pembina Valley ladies softball league for a decade. Brian served 36 years with the Miami Volunteer Fire department, sat on the boards of the Miami Community Hall, Miami Arena, Miami Agricultural Society, Miami Rodeo Committee, Miami Co-Op, Manitoba Harness-racing Association and was a member of the Lion's Club. A celebration of Brian's life will be held at Miami Community Hall on Monday, July 28 at 2 PM. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the charity of your choice.
