Remaining to forever cherish Jean's memory are her daughter Wilma Fidler (Graham); son Bud (Bev); daughter Betty VanDerAa, and daughter Lynda Yanz. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1981; son Jim; parents Harry and Hilda Lawson; sister Kay Kerr; son-in-law Dennis Yanz and great-granddaughter Kaila VanDerAa. Jean was born in Nesbitt, Manitoba and spent her childhood years in Gimli, Manitoba living in the town's railway station where her father was the CPR stationmaster. She met and married her husband Bill in 1929 and they continued living in Gimli until moving to Winnipeg in 1939. During the Second World War, Jean was in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires working as a security officer in the Transcona Cordite (munitions) Plant. She spent many years as an employee of the T. Eaton Company as the assistant manager in the china department. Upon retirement, Jean and Bill returned to Gimli where they spent time gardening, square dancing, curling, playing bridge and bingo, and wintering in various parts of the United States. In her later years, Jean moved back to Winnipeg, spending her last six years as a resident at Riverview. In compliance with the family's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A family interment will occur at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wards AB2 and 3C Wing of Riverview Health Centre for the exceptional care and compassion provided for our mother and grandmother over the years.
