Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUCY HELEN BETKER (nee BEACHAM) It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lucy on July 23, 2008 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Mom was born June 27, 1923 to the late Roze and Harry Beacham. She grew up in Morse Place, Elmwood and after graduating from East Kildonan High she married Alfred Betker on July 6, 1946. She worked at Codville's until the birth of her first son, and then stayed at home to raise her family. Later, she was employed at Zeller's Polo Park for over 25 years, where she met and maintained many lifelong friends. Lucy belonged to the St. James Assiniboia Senior Centre where she entertained friends with her Scrabble prowess and card playing ability. She was a past member of the MSOS Cycling group well into her 70's. She also enjoyed her yearly visits with the Gimli Girls . Her sense of humor was as unique as Lucy. Life presented her with many challenges and she handled them with grace, dignity and often an amazing sense of the absurd. Laughter was a great healer and Lucy had a gift of finding the lighter side of the situation. She was a strong and determined woman who always put her family first. Her family was most important to her. Family dinners, special occasions, or just a drive, as long as Mom was with one of her children or grandchildren she was content. We will love you forever and always. Mom will be dearly missed by her children; Wayne (Valerie), Carol and David (Deana). Mom was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Cynthia (Cameron), Marney (Cory), Kim (Wayne), Darrel, Danielle, Chad, Jory, Ryan; and five great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Dylan, Ryder, Chase, Tayanna. Also left to mourn Lucy are her brother Harry of Toronto and sister Rose (Don) of Winnipeg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Alfred, her brother Sidney and her sister Maude. Sincere thanks go to Dr. Inglis and the 4th floor staff at Grace Hospital for your kind and gentle care. A celebration of Mom's life will take place at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Monday, July 28, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
