HILTON FRIESEN It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing on July 23, 2008 of our dear husband, father, grandfather and friend Hilton Friesen. Hilton was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Julianna, his son James, brother Allen, his sister Verda, her husband Arley Dueck and brother-in-law Al Rattai. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his loving wife of 55 years Stephanie, his daughter Kim, her husband Larry Sigurdson, beloved grandkids Matthew and Bethany, sisters Aldyth (Ernie), Lavina, Valerie (Herman), and brother-in-law Bill Melnyk. He also leaves behind many friends Chuck Huard (Lise) who was like a son to him, Flo Ledoux who was like a daughter, Vern Gibson his business partner, Sandy and June Sandberg friends and neighbors for over 50 years, good friend Joan Halaiko, many cousins whom he was close to, many friends from the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club, his friends, employees and customers at his store Elmwood Hobby Works. Hilt was born on September 19, 1932 in Steinbach and spent his early years teaching his mom patience and tolerance until he moved to Winnipeg where he met the love of his life at a business college. He spent many years doing various different jobs but it was when he started his train store that he really enjoyed himself and his retirement years . Hilt was generous to a fault, helping those who needed his help over the years, whether it was financial, in friendship or a good listening ear. He had many different interests and hobbies over the years like photography and stamp collecting which kept him very busy. His hearty laugh will be well remembered. His love of a good restaurant was well known and always enjoyed a shared good meal and wine with his wife and friends. His love of reading led to the writing of a few books, which meant he spent a good many hours researching the history of our family and many others. Hilton will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Thanks to the staff and nurses at Concordia Hospital 3rd Floor East for their comfort and care during his final hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favourite charity in his memory. A time of celebration and remembrance of Hilt's life will be held on Sunday, July 27 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Braeside Mennonite Church, 1011 Munroe Ave. condolences: www.bardal.ca
